The Beiber Experience

Luke and I had a day date today. We were planning on going to the King's Speech but then Luke kindly asked, "Do you think we could go see the Justin Beiber movie instead?" I laughed and said, "sure." So after we had a terrible lunch at the new "Fusionz" place downtown...we headed to the theater.

I've never been a huge Beiber fan...until today. In fact, I never knew about him until a friend showed me this youtube video and I had to ask who Justin Beiber was (only a year ago).

The whole experience was hilarious. We walk in and see tons of little girls with their moms. I am sure all the moms were thinking, "Oh look at how sweet that husband is, I am sure his wife dragged him here." Little did they know the Beiber fan was not me, but my dear husband.

Right away I knew something about this movie would be different. There were not any previews for movies dealing with scandalous affairs, dirty humor, etc. In fact, the first preview was the new straight to TV movie, Lemonade Stand?! Followed by the one and only POWER RANGERS movie (again straight to TV) preview. Then, there was a preview about Prom, from the Nickeloden studios. I honestly forgot they still produced movies--the last one I saw was Good Burger, which I must admit I enjoyed!

Anyway, the movie began and Beiber Fever hit me cold in the face. I mean this kid was so cute and humble. And no I do not support kids idolizing and worshiping pop stars...but I could not help but feel the pure joy and excitement of all the little girls screaming and crying over him. My favorite quote from the movie was a little girl saying, "I think about Justin Beiber 99% of my day." haha.

Watching all of the girls, who were more than likely at their very first concert, made me think of my first concert and how far along things have come. My first concert was none other than Reba Macentire on the Read my Mind tour. Now don't get me wrong, Reba is awesome (haha Stacey) and her costume changes were wonderful...but it was not quite like the Never Say Never tour, and I didn't even see it in real life.

I think Reba and Justin only have one thing in common, their obsession with their hair. Check out these red locks from the early 90s.

So, I am not going to lie. This movie made me a little emotional and I got the chills more than once. Even Luke walked out of the theater saying he almost cried a little. So, whether you are a Belieber or not, the movie is worth watching. I think he is the next Michael Jackson. Just sayin'

Misspelled Words

Funny, I had to look up how to spell misspelled as I wrote the title of this blog.

I just need to vent. I get SO frustrated because I always misspell the SAME WORDS every time I write an email, paper, newsletter, etc. In fact, I misspell them so badly that the "spell check" never suggests the words that I am trying to spell. And here's the thing: I am actually decent at spelling. But for some reason there are a handful of words that I can NEVER get right.

The word I ALWAYS (without a doubt) misspell is definitely. I always try to spell it as defintly, which spell check thinks is defiantly.

Other words that I can never get the first time: February and Commitment (I always get confused if it is double m or double t)

What would we do without spell check?!

I only wish that there was something similar to spell check when it comes to pronunciation. Turns out I had been mispronouncing words that start with acc my whole life, only I just found out about it 2 years ago.

Friends, if someone is mispronouncing a word...let them know.

Turns out God really loves me and wants me to pronounce words correctly. I have made 4 close friends that are speech pathologists in the last few years! Thanks for helping me learn how to say words like: accessory, acceptable, accept, etc...

OK that's all...what is your most common misspelled word?!

Capital City

There are more reasons for Luke and I to visit DC these days. Not only are their beautiful monuments, interesting museums and great shopping...

But also, you can walk out of lunch and see people running a 5k in their underwear...

And then you can go to Georgetown and see the one and only DC Cupcake store that is on TLC. To bad the line was too long...but it was still fun to see the cute shop!

You can go to the Library of Congress! The World's largest library. You can even see Thomas Jefferson's personal collection of books!

Also, you can look for spies. Did you know that 1 out of every 10 people in DC is a spy?! And now that Luke and I are into Alias (yes we know we are 10 years late on that one), I am obsessed with finding spies. I think there were LOTS of spies in the library...Sydney Bristow...we know you were there somewhere.

The best reason for coming to DC these days is friends becoming friends. You see, Lisa was my roommate in Harrisonburg, she is dating Brandon. Brandon and I fell in love as friends, and then Lisa fell in love with Luke as friends. Drystan is a good friend from Greensboro who moved up to DC. I set Lisa and Drystan up for a "friend date" and they fell in love as friends. Then everyone came to our wedding. Drystan's "sister" Alli needed a ride home from Greensboro to DC so she could catch a bus to MD. Lisa and Brandon realized, after picking her up, that Alli was not Drystan's actual sister, but more like his sista. Lisa fell asleep, Alli and Brandon laughed the whole way home. They fell in love as friends also. Alli moved to Arlington in December for school. Now all our friends and friend and my heart could not be happier.

The best part of the weekend was what Luke called "tuning into the Alli show" on Saturday night. We made dinner and then Alli Phillps entertained us, very successfully, for 4 hours straight. No one I know can do it like she can.

Drystan, Alli, Lisa, and Brandon...thanks for a fabulous DC weekend. We are thankful for your friendship and can't wait to see you again! Also, Lisa, thanks again for labeling all the containers with the proper taco condiments. If it wasn't for you, the tomatoes might have gotten into the sour cream.

Surprises

This past week I had two days in a row full of surprises. This is a big deal because I can only think of a few times in my life that I have been fully surprised. I think the most surprised I had ever been was when my parents gave me a car when I was 16. I answered the door bell and a car was sitting on the front lawn. I was also pretty surprised when Luke and I got engaged...but for some reason I still had an inkling of an idea somehow. It drives Luke crazy. Any time he plans a date, I know where we are going. When he buys me something, I know what it is. I think I get it from my dad who has guessed every present I have ever given him.

Anyway, on Thursday I was invited to JMU's Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards Banquet. I have been an adviser for Sigma Kappa here for a couple years. The past two years, we have not won any awards given by the University. This year was quite different! We won almost half of the awards given out! Including: Most Improved Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Philanthropic Event, Outstanding New Member Program, Outstanding Sorority President, Outstanding Executive Officer, and Living the Ritual award. It was so fun to see all the girl so excited!

Luke even go to come with me! But first I had to "lay down the rules" and tell him how to be cool. I mean this is Greek Life...and these are Sigma Kappa ladies. I must say he did fairly well even after he told me I "clipped his wings" (Modern family reference for all you fans out there).

The following day Luke had planned a fun date night. He wouldn't tell me what we were doing, where we were going, etc. I assumed we were doing to dinner and maybe to a play in Staunton, or something along those lines. We started heading toward Bridgewater and made the comment "This is close to where Adam and Rachel live," a couple from our home group. The next thing I know we are pulling in their drive way and "SURPRISE" the guys had planned a Valentine's Day dinner for all the ladies!

We had wine spaghetti (spaghetti cooked in red wine), tomato/basil/mozzarella, salad, and a wonderful cake. The guys also preformed little poems for each of their wives-it was sweet to see how each one was so unique. Here are a few pics from the evening:

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Laughs

It was Jess' birthday weekend and we had a great time celebrating her! The whole weekend was full of laughs and sweet moments!

Friday night we all went to Cally's!

Meg and Me.
She is awesome. I like that she can watch UNC bball with my husband while I blog.

I heart Luke.

Saturday night: Dinner in and lots of games to be followed. I think Jess is the only friend I have that can keep up with my gaming desires.

Lauren and Katie.

Here are where the laughs come in. Amy tried to teach Luke how to do "The Jerk." Let's just say his dancing skills have not seen much improvement since he kicked me in the shin dancing at his senior prom.

The middle of dinner is the best time to ice your wrist because of tendinitis that you got from playing to many video games...

Then we all shared many laughs as we each gave speeches about how cool Jess is. There were even a few tears.

And then we "dittoed" all night long...

And then most people laughed about the fact that Meg made a pie for Jess and it actually turned out well, but I cried (See post on Luke's almost perfect birthday).

We ended the night by playing The game of Things, followed by 2 consecutive games of Fishbowl that proved to be quite entertaining to say the least.

Jess, it was so fun to celebrate you!

Luke and I growing more and more in love with weekends in the Burg!

2:00 fix

Let's just say things have been a bit crazy in my life lately. February is always the busiest month for work with Greek Conference...but this Feb seems to be more crazy than ever. Without going into all the details, I was so stressed out and overwhelmed last Wednesday that I, Taylor Logan, forgot to drink a diet coke.

So, for those of you that know me, this is a HUGE deal. Pretty much every day since I was 18 I have had a diet coke (from the can, duh), specifically at 2:00 in the afternoon. "Why 2:00," you might ask? Well, I have coffee and breakfast around 7:45 am, lunch close to 12:30, but you need something to get you through to dinner time! 2:00 is the perfect time for diet coke and a small snack to carry you the rest of the day.

The only exception to this was last year when I gave us diet coke for lent. How?! The grace of God.

But, Wednesday's stress level totally threw me off. I didn't eat lunch till 2:30 because I forgot (also a big deal if you know my appetite). Then around 5:00 I went on a quick walk with Jess because I needed some light and air before I went crazy (cellar=dark) and all the sudden my head was beating constantly...and I realized that I had forgotten my 2:00 pick-me up!

You might also ask "Why out of a can?" Well, there is nothing like the taste of cold and crisp diet coke, and in my opinion a dc out of a bottle is just sub par (although Aunt Dara might disagree). The fizz and the crispness just isn't there in the same way.

Anyway, pray for me. I used to tell my friends in college, "Don't be stressed, be blessed!" I guess I need to follow my own advice.
