Harrisonburg House Hunters

I am slightly (ok maybe really) obsessed with House Hunters on HGTV. It is my go to show when I just want to sit back and relax...I guess that is what happens when you hit your mid-twenties! In my teens years I loved a good afternoon of the "dating story" or the classic "Next" on MTV. Then in my early twenties I turned to "Say Yes to the Dress" and "Platinum Weddings." Now, I am on to the house shows...and avoiding the baby shows like the plague.

So, Luke and I are house/apartment hunting for a place to rent! The cellar has been SO good to us, but the girls we love upstairs are moving and let's be honest...we want a place with a little more sunlight and less drains!

On House Hunters each couple shares their "want list" and then they start the hunt, so I present to you the Logan Family want list:

  • downtown location (or a short bike ride away)
  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1-2 baths
  • dishwasher
  • laundry room
Not to picky huh?! The problem is the budget...there are tons of great apartments downtown but they are SO expensive! We would like to spend less than $750 a month on rent (I know shocker to some of you, the cost of living is so cheap in the burg!).

So pray for us and we try to find a place within the next month! Come on, Harisonburg, give us that cute little downtown apartment we have been waiting for...

Allison + Mark

While the rest of the world was awaiting the "end of the world" I was with some of my best friends at a wedding in North Carolina. One of my sorority sisters, Allison, married an amazing Aussie! I love her version of how they met (taken from their website):

"I couldn't decide if I wanted to go out or not. My arm was twisted and I went, unshowered. On September 5, 2009 I walked into Grey's Bar to meet some old friends for drinks. I ordered a beer and a friend I was with ordered me a beer as well. About that time I noticed a guy in a pink shirt eyeing me down. I mean, REALLY eyeing me down!! Keep in mind I had two drinks in front of me. The waitress walked up and handed me ANOTHER beer...that made THREE! She told me the guy at the next table bought it for me. Mark was super brave and walked up to me when I was with a big group of friends. He introduced himself, I didn't understand his accent, thought it was his name was 'Max'. I pointed to my three Bud Light in front of me and asked him if he would like a drink. He laughed and said he didn't drink 'that American stuff'. (He does now, I may add.) We talked all night long! It started raining and I offered him and his friend Andy a ride home...which I would normally NEVER do...but Andy kept telling me how 'safe' they were. I'm marrying the guy who bought me a drink. Cheers!"

Their wedding was at The Gardens of Green Gables in Oak Ridge, NC. The weather was perfect and everything was beautiful. I just love Allison's style!

Sigma Kappa ladies: Lindsay, Anna, Courtney and Katie. And, my dress finally made it's debut!

Katie and Kirsten, so great to see these ladies!

loved of all of her details...here I go again pretending like I have a wedding blog...
my handsome groom

my little sis Amanda!

The DYNASTY fam still going strong

every Sigma Kappa's favorite part of the wedding..."High above her scented garter..."

I miss all these girls so much, it was wonderful to see everyone!

And yes, there was even a celebrity in our midst!! After talking around and using a smart phone, Anna finally came to the conclusion that this was indeed Kerry Vincent, the cake lady of the Food Network Challenge, and she was dying to meet her. So, I offered to go over and say hello, of course I had no idea who she was but I will never miss an opportunity to take a photo with a celebrity! Those headbands of hers are crazy by the way...and I must wonder what she thought of the cake? It was delicious but apparently she is the "Simon Cowell" of cakes...and not very nice according to the wedding party.

I am not exactly sure how this happened, but Lindsay somehow managed to get wax all over her face when she was blowing out one of the tea lights...what a sight to see!

My God bless your marriage, MR. AND MRS. POTTER!!

Bittersweet-ness at Rockbridge

OK, so I did not have the opportunity to BLOB at camp this time---dang I missed that on my bucket list. For all of you that love and appreciate the blob at young life camps, please check out this video, I loved it! But, I did have a blast spending time with students and staff the past couple of weeks.

I could not have been more blessed by Greek InterVarsity during my 4 years on staff: the supporters, the staff, and the students. My supporters have shown me what it means to give sacrificially and cheerfully. Other staff have given me role models to look up to--people who taught me how to pray, how to love others well, and how to share Christ with others.

And Greek IV students have given me honestly more than I can say. I always dreamed that Greek students would want to start a Bible study in their chapter or come to a large group (a place where being Greek and faith come together)- but I always thought it was just that, a dream. These past 3 years my students have showed me that it is a reality. I felt like there were so many times that I made bad decisions as a staff or handled something wrong, and they just loved me in the midst of me learning and growing. Through their commitment to God, I grew more and more in love with HIM. Through seeing them change and go through ups and downs, my faith grew. I just can't even explain what they have done for me. I have been changed through this ministry.

So, although it is sad to not be the Greek IV staff anymore, I am excited to what is ahead. I am pumped to see how God will use my past 4 years on staff as I move on to the world of student affairs. I am fully confident that the ministry will continue to grow, and that I will as well. Here are some highlights from my final weeks on staff with InterVarsity:

Greek bonfire: above is the new Community Gatherings Team, below Robbie and Ty are enjoying the somores!

Below: One of my favorite things about camp is being in the Good News Track every year. Jennifer and I have a tradition of doing an interpretative dance to 2 Corinthians 5: 14-21 (our memory verse for the week). Basically, it includes a lot of falling down (He died for all..) and hugs (reconciliation). This year I pulled my back...maybe I got a little to in to it?

Greek IV staff at Rockbridge. Love Dusty in this picture!

I was pretty pumped to get to throw up the ZTA crown sign! Love these ZTA ladies :)

Old and New staff coming together. I could not be more excited for Abby to come to JMU next year and continue this amazing ministry with these special people!

Dereck's Graduation Day

Hello all! I am finally back from camp and have already completed a couple of things on my summer bucket list! Two weeks ago Luke and I drove our new (used) Toyota Yaris (number 34 on the list) all the way to Boone, NC to see my baby brother graduate. It was so much fun to be in Boone with all of our family and to celebrate Dereck getting his degree in International Criminal Justice. Last time I asked what Dereck was going to do with it, he commented that he wants to be the next James Bond...what an exciting life ahead :) We stayed in an awesome cabin in Blowing Rock and enjoyed great food, wonderful shopping at the outlets, and just spending time together!

Dereck's big fan club. Me, Courtney (Dereck's GF) , Grandma Becky, Grandpa John, Dad, Uncle Kent, Mom and Aunt Dara. We weren't allowed to scream and clap...but we did give a "whoop!"

Where's Waldo! We were so impressed we found him in this crazy crowd...

Chancellor Peacock, one of the many reasons why i love Appalachian State!!!

1st thing Dereck wanted to do with his new degree, take a sip of New Castle, haha.

Dereck was the first of all of his ASU friends to graduate. They were so proud of him!

Yes! I was finally able to go back to Klondike, on of the hang out spots for Sigma Kappas when I was in school. Basically, it is a really cool double wide trailer with a dance floor that EVERYONE adores...haha. Gotta love that even mom and Aunt Dara made it out...

And, I love the fact that Dereck wore his cap and gown all night long! We are proud of you D-Reg and can't wait for what is next for you!

MIA

That's right, I'll be missing in action for the next two weeks. I'm off to Dereck's graduation and then camp for TWO WEEKS! Week One JMU Greek IV students will join me...week 2 other schools from our region. I can't believe this will be the last time I staff at camp! Until then, have a great few weeks and I am looking forward to sharing fun memories when I get back!

And to those Greek IV gals and guys that can't make it...we will miss you!

The Royal Wedding

I honestly did not realize how big of a deal the Royal Wedding would be! I mean, I knew Kate and William were getting married because I shamelessly read Us Weekly at the gym, and because of the constant status updates weeks before the wedding...but I just did not get it. Then I had dinner with my little (a wedding planner in Greensboro) and she convinced me that this was the event of the year!

I came back to Harrisonburg and somehow convinced the girls upstairs to watch the Lifetime movie about their love story with me. It was pretty cheesey, but I must say I felt like I knew them a little better before the big day.

So, even though I have a hard time getting up on a typical morning at 7:45...I was able to JUMP out of bed gleefully at 5:30 am last Friday. Jess and I got together with our coffee/tea in hand and watched the beautiful Kate Middleton get out of the limo and walk down that aisle. Her dress was beautiful and I loved it every second. However, we had a scary interruption in the middle of the ceremony...

I had told Luke the morning before that Jess and I would be watching the wedding in our living room but I guess he forgot. Around 6:15 he swung wide the door of our bedroom for what he called his "Royal Entrance" in nothing but his underwear. Jess screamed, Luke was shocked and I kindly asked Luke to go put on some clothes. We honestly thought this kind of thing would happen more living below 4 girls, but so far it has just been this once and boy was it perfect timing!!

After the great commotion, we continued watching the kiss and enjoyed hearing all about the fun that would be happening in the Palace.

Later that evening, Luke and I were going on a date. He brought home a princess tiara for me and flowers...he said with all this princess talk going on I needed to be reminded I was his princess. How sweet and incredibly cheesey--which is one reason I love him sooo much!

Ok, so I didn't look quite as good as Kate, but you know my flowers sure were pretty! It totally made my night and we had a great SUSHI date at Beyond :)
