Baby it's cold inside...

Big Love is out of oil and it's just cold. And it's March...March 29th...hello isn't it supposed to be beautiful spring weather!? I'm ready for the flip flops. And yet, I am wearing long johns, bed room slippers, pants, 2 shirts, a and sweatshirt...with the hood up because my neck is cold. You aren't supposed to need heat at the end of March.

And, I will say that the upstairs portion of Big Love is much colder! Thankfully Luke and I are warmer in the basement and have each other for some body heat, but tonight we had dinner upstairs and we were freezing our butts off!

This is what Jess has been wearing for the past 3 days.

We thought we could make it through without heat for the next few weeks, but looks like mother nature had some different plans. The oil comes tomorrow. So here's to empty wallets and warm beds.

Pooper Scoopers

So sad I forgot to mention the pooper scoopers in my last post. When the donkeys had to go, the game stops and out come the pros...

Donkey Basketball?!

A fun Saturday night out in the burg?! You bet ya! Only in Harrisonburg can you drive a little up north on 81 and find a high school fundraiser of teachers playing basketball on donkeys.

Yes I said playing basketball on donkeys.

I was shocked when I first heard of the concept too. So, when Ashley mentioned that Jake (her fiance) was playing for a school fund raiser...Luke and I jumped at the opportunity to check it out.

Apparently Donkey Basketball has been played in the United States since the 1930's. It is played similarly to a regular basketball game, only you are on donkeys (with little shoes on them to protect the floor). We found out this guy makes a living by having 10 donkeys and driving around to different schools and helping them with fund-raisers. He splits the earnings 50/50 and then goes on his way to another school. Interesting profession, huh?!

Anyway, Jake was definitely the MVP of his team (they played middle school vs. high school teachers) even though his team lost. He even stayed on the donkey, unlike most of his teammates who continually got bucked off!

Notice the guy to the right of Jake (in the middle). He was the tallest guy and got the smallest donkey (named hippie). The donkey refused to let him on his back and it was the funniest thing watching him try to mount over and over and over again...

Jake, such a natural. But of course he could not have done it without his fans:

During half-time Katie and I enthusiastically volunteered for what we later found out was Musical Donkies, a lovely version of musical chairs. Let's just say the competition was fierce and women were being thrown on the floor...

I placed third (getting out during the chicken round) but Katie made it on to the final round:
Let's just say Katie's competition, Brandi, was taking this a little to seriously. Katie fought hard, but in the end Brandi just wanted it more than Katie did. I mean this was the event of the year in her hometown--she had to represent.

Also entertaining, the haircuts we found in the audience:

So, if you hear of Donkey Basketball coming to your town this spring, head there and prepare to have a good time!

Joyous Celebration

In the past 10 months, 3 of the 4 Register cousins have gotten hitched (no pressure, Dereck, haha). Brooke and I both turned in our Register name and this past week we got to pass it on to the NEW MRS. REGISTER. Which, after all, was the reason for all of us being in St. Kitts in the first place.

The ceremony was beautiful. I have never seen a bride so giggly and excited! Brian and Luann were clearly pumped to be starting life together! And, we could not be more happy for them.

Then it was time to celebrate!

I just need to interject here and say how cool it is to have my cousin be one of my best friends. Brooke was my Matron of Honor and I was her Maid of Honor...and last week we had the chance to spend time together with our new husbands. I loved spending some QT with Brooke on the beach (although it still was not enough). Can't wait to see you guys again in two weeks!

Blogging world, thanks for following me on my family's journey to St. Kitts! Hope you enjoyed the pictures and will book your trip soon :)

Back to reality...but hey reality is not so bad. We may live in a basement with no windows, but at least we have each other!

Lunch with a View: Shripwrecked Beach

"When on vacation, we're skinny and rich." -Dad

I love that. Don't worry about what you eat or getting up early to hit the gym, and don't be scared to order the meal that is $10 more than you wanted to spend. In the reality, Luke and I are worried over money and making sure we are healthy...but we embraced my dad's motto this past week.

Which is why on our last day in St. Kitts we spent the afternoon at Shipwrecked Beach, and I had a double cheeseburger, french fries, and a large diet coke. And I even bought a t-shirt. How could you not order the double instead of the single with a view like this?!

We had a great time enjoying Shipwrecked Beach. Here are a few pics from the day:

"It's a big blue watery road..."

The Register family and friends went on an amazing catamaran trip with Elvis and his shipmates. We had a blast and spent the afternoon snorkeling, catching up and checking out the beautiful island from the water.

One of the best parts about the catamaran was the crew! We met these guys 3 years ago on our trip and have been talking about them ever since. They are hilarious and so much fun to be around.

Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack

I am beginning to think that the Travel Channel should hire me.

Lobster. Picnic Tables. Family. Carib. Beach. Ragae Music. Beach Bonfire.

Sound good to you?!

Follow me to The Shiggidy Shack. It was so good we went 3 times.

The first night, Luke's dream came true:

The Second Night we brought the whole family along:

Register fam, welcome to St. Kitts!!

Two visits weren't enough:

cousins enjoying the beach bonfire

how the cousin-in-laws really feel about being a part of the Register family

fam + new fam (Luann's dad, Larry)

we actually got dad out on the dance floor

Dereck met a new woman on the dance floor, she was lovin' it. And I am pretty sure he didn't hate it (haha, sorry Courtney!)

The Monkeys of St. Kitts

The Monkeys of St. Kitts are so much fun and really cute!

Some locals find monkeys and raise them in order to make money with the tourists. They teach them tricks and charge you money to take pictures with them. Others are wild and will just come up to you on the beaches or along the roads. The monkeys are known to love alcohol, check out this hilarious video.

Matt (my cousin's husband) was really pumped about meeting a monkey.

But the monkey was more into my mom than Matt, haha...

Here were some of the other monkeys we saw hanging out on the beaches:
